Bah
Yesterday went well, we booked the rehearsal room, which had a drum kit, loads of amps, PA, mics etc, and jammed VERY LOUDLY for about 4 hours (€12 per hour), and my ears are still ringing. Adam played the drums surprisingly well, so he's now officially in the band.

We decided to play "Born on the Bayou" by Creedence Clearwater Revival for the gig next week, 'cos it's fairly simple and it's a great song.

BUT

After we left the rehearsal room, we went for a few pints, and while we were in the pub, Davitt got a text from the organisers of the gig; "we regret to inform you that the gig has been cancelled." Bah.

We're going to try to make the rehearsal room a regular thing, though, and hopefully get real gigs going in the near future.

RINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

After the HORRIBLENESS of my on-radio drumming, I am back to my rightful post of guitarist, and my brother (Adam/Gweedo to you lot) might be taking up drumming for the band. We booked a rehearsal room on friday to test him.

Next week, on the 22nd, we have a gig. Well, sort of. There's a music competition thingy for schools in the area, and they wanted a band to do a song during the break, so we'll be doing that(not in the competition). Don't know what we'll be doing yet, I think it'll either be The Ballad Of John And Yoko, Crossroads or Sultans Of Swing, depending on what goes better on friday.

In other news, I might have a full time job for the summer, which'll become part time when I go back to college. In about a month I'll have an interview to be a directory-enquiry-phone-answery-thing (That's the job title, honest).
My sister worked in the place a few years ago, and says I'm pretty much guaranteed a job there.

Finally, Cocksuit might actually afford mudmeets.

Radio thing went fairly well, for the most part.

Throughout the recording I was worrying about making the minor buggerups that I had been making while practising all day, but I managed to put all the drum fills in all the right places, and not drop the sticks(yay).
Then DISASTER STRUCK

During the last solo, towards the end, I was thinking "Ah yay, I don't have to do anymore changes or fills, so I won't get confused, and ergo, won't bugger up. And now I just have to finish. . . . SHIT, I wasn't meant to finish there."

I started playing the ending cymbally bit a bar early, but apparently, according to our loving masses, it just sounded like another fill before the end. The may be lying.

I'll linky the podcast as soon as it's online.

I think I might be RAWKing on the Radio tomorrow. Go me!

Secondary school reunion thing tomorrow, and it's for everyone who's ever attended the school, since it's closing this summer.
When I was in college today, I got a voicemail from my old music teacher, about a musical segment for RTE's piece about the school, so myself and a few of my friends who were in my class are going to do Sultans of Swing, with one of the teachers singing. This involves me playing drums, which I'm a bit sceptical about. I haven't drummed for about a month, and Sultans is a particularly difficult song, which I can barely manage during jams.

It's all pre-recorded, though, so if I feck up we can redo.

I'll be fine as long as I don't get compared to Nana Mouskouri on national radio(1).

IF YOUR LIFE WAS A MOVIE, WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE?

So, here's how it works:

1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool!

1. Opening Credits:
The Happiest Days of Our Lives - Pink Floyd

2. Waking Up:
Little Alligator - Steve Vai

3. First Day at School:
Karate - Tenacious D (hmm . . .)

4. Falling in Love:
Voodoo Acid - Steve Vai (WEEEEIIIIRD song)

5. Fight Song:
Dismal Days - Smokey Dog ([info]tiquetoque will know how wrong that is)

6. Breaking Up:
Whookam - Steve Vai (Lots of Vai today, another weird song.)

7. Prom:
The Spirit Carries On - Dream Theater

8. Life's Ok:
Warm Regards - Steve Vai (He's just haunting me now)

9. Mental Breakdown:
Dr Who - Bill Bailey (60's Belgian Jazz version)

10. Driving:
Particle Man - They Might be Giants

11. Flashback:
Money Money Money - A Metal Tribute To Abba

12. Getting Back Together:
Parisienne Walkways - Thin Lizzy

13. Wedding:
Fire - Jimi Hendrix (How cool would that wedding be?)

14. Birth of a Child:
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd (She wishes)

15. Death Scene:
The Silent Man - Dream Theater (Oddly appropriate)

16. Funeral Song:
Scene Four: Beyond this life - Dream Theater again (again, appropriate title, although the song itself is about a murder . . .)

17. End Credits:
Damage Inc - Metallica

What a crap soundtrack.

Current Music: Damage Inc, 'cos it was the last one on the list

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last month I helped [info]ceirseach across the street (6 points). In March I invaded Iraq, broke it, and couldn't glue it back together before Mom got home (-1012 points). Last Saturday I turned [info]dasquian in for tearing the tag off a mattress (3 points). Last Thursday I put money in [info]soglad's expired parking meter (14 points). In May I donated bone marrow to [info]bazpolaris in a life-saving procedure (300 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-689 points). For Christmas I deserve a spanking!

Sincerely,

As you may know, I attended [info]hellison's halloween partay as an emo.
Naturally, I kept a diary of moments that were particularly emotional for me, as an emo.
Unfortunately, the entries stopped as the heavy drinking progressed, so there's no deep, meaningful side to my altered state of consciousness.

Warning, contains in-jokes that I can't remember particularly well myself. )

My sister is a bit too excited about me dressing as an emo for [info]hellison's partay. I went to her looking for a lend of a belt, and maybe a bit of eyeliner. I left with the belt, the eyeliner, a headband that'll be used as a wristband (she had no emo wristbands), a hair straightener, a headband for my friend that's dressing as a hippy, and a fake lipring. She also wanted to equip me with a rather emo handbag, but I declined. (It didn't match my shoes)

Gawd, nobody understands me.

My first day of college tomorrow. I'm getting so big! *pinches cheek*

I'm in at 10, so I'll have to be up EARLY, which is not fun after a summer of being a lazy bastard, although I did get up at about 9.30 last week to go to the cinema early. (cheaper tickets that way)

A pile of my friends are going to the same college, and I'll be with them for most of the day (it's just an orientation day) but we'll be split up at a few points, because we're doing different courses.

In other news, I'm still unemployed, after a long summer of unemployedness. I've been looking for a job during the summer, but hopefully it'll become easier now that the part-timers have gone back to school.

I officially have my own room now, 'cos my brother moved out, so I have the attic, which is very cool.

I also have my own suit. A lot of people are renting suits for the debs (Irish "prom" type wossname), but I decided it'd be cheaper to buy my own jacket/tie (I already have trousers anna shirt) so my outfit is entirely black, but with a pink tie. It looks surprisingly un-ridiculous.

I got my leaving cert results today, and I'm quite pleased.

Irish - Ordinary level - C3 (expected to do much crapper)

English - Higher level - B3 (Ditto, very pleased with this one)

Maths - Ordinary level - B2 (An O.K. result)

Physics - Ordinary level - B3 (better than I expected)

Techincal drawing - Ordinary level - B1 (thought I did crap)

Construction studies - Higher level - B3 (I thought this was one of my worst subjects)

Music - Higher level - C3 (bit disappointed with this one, to be honest)

330 points overall, and the course I'm doing only required 280 to get into.
So I got "7 honours" unless you want to get technical, in which case I only got 3 "real" ones. Which I keep telling my mother, who keeps saying "7 honours" in a voice that only dogs can hear.

Was at the Tommy Emmanuel gig last night, it was GRATE!

Tommy is quite possibly the only guitarist who plays drum solos on his guitar. More than once.
Also the only serious musician who expects his audience to piss themselves laughing througout the show.

Me and Davitt were in the front row, in the seated wossname, but Adam bought his ticket at the door, so was MILES(1) away. At one stage, Adam (the bastard) bought pints for me and Dav, so I had to go over to him. When I was with him, he said "duck when you're going past the stage", 'cos I had to walk directly in front of it.
So there's me, subtley ducking while walking past the stage, carrying two pints of guinness, with Tommy staring at me, licking his lips. This was an example of the crowd's urinatory laugter.

He was also accepting requests, so there were shouts of his songs and covers coming from every direction, including the obligatory "FREEBIRD"(2), and a guy near me got sick of this and shouted "whatever you want!"
He then played a bit of Status Quo's "whatever you want".

Later, Davitt asked him for his pick, and got it thrown to him(3), despite Tommy not being the pick-throwing type.

Although, the highlight of the night had to be the support act.
I had a true Homer Simpson moment when he announced his name. "HE'S NAMED LIKE MY NAME".
His name was Richard Smith, Slightly different spelling on the surname, but it's pronounced the same.
I now have a CD signed "From one Richard Smith to another" from him.

So I think I'm going to throw away my guitar.

(1)Well, Vicar St. theatre is tiny, but METRES! doesn't have the same effect.

(2)From me, no less.

(3) Which he missed, but got handed to him by a kind stranger.
